Draft, not final, last updated 14 October 2026.

This is a working draft. It is not final, has not been reviewed by a lawyer, and may change substantially before it is. Please don’t rely on it as Astry’s final terms. Words in square brackets are details still to be filled in.

Community Guidelines (draft)

How we expect everyone on Astry to behave, and what happens when someone doesn’t.

1. Why we have these

Astry is a place to learn and teach, and many of the people on it are children. These guidelines describe the behaviour that keeps it safe and pleasant for everyone. They are part of our Terms and Conditions, so breaking them is breaking the Terms.

They can’t list everything. If something isn’t mentioned but is clearly harmful, unsafe or unfair, the same rules apply.

2. Be respectful

  • Be polite and patient, in messages, lessons, reviews and replies.
  • No harassment, bullying, threats, insults or repeated unwanted messages. If someone stops replying, let it go.
  • No discrimination or hate based on race, religion, sex, gender identity, sexuality, disability, age or background.
  • No sexual comments, flirting or romantic approaches to anyone you met as a student or tutor.
  • Swearing is filtered out of messages. Don’t try to get around the filter.

3. Keep children safe

These rules matter most. Breaking any of them can mean an immediate ban and a report to the police.

  • Adults only deal with children as Astry’s age rules allow. Don’t try to get around them.
  • Never try to move a conversation with a child off Astry, or ask a child for photos, personal details or secrets.
  • Never send a child sexual, violent or otherwise unsuitable material, or talk to them about sexual topics.
  • Never ask to meet a child outside an agreed lesson, or without their parent knowing.
  • Tutors follow the rules in our Tutor and Seller Agreement about open settings, cameras and recording.

If a child seems to be at risk, report it straight away. Our Child Safety Policy explains what happens next.

4. Be honest

  • Use your real name and date of birth, and only one account.
  • Don’t pretend to be someone else, or to be someone’s parent.
  • Describe your qualifications, experience and results truthfully, and only upload credentials that are genuine and yours.
  • Don’t report a no-show or a problem that didn’t happen.

5. Keep contact and payments on Astry

  • Phone numbers and email addresses aren’t allowed in messages, and social media handles are always hidden. Keep every conversation on Astry, even after a lesson is booked.
  • Don’t get around this by spelling numbers out, splitting them up, or putting them in images or file names.
  • Once card payments are switched on, pay and get paid through Astry, and don’t ask anyone to pay outside it.

6. Share the right things

  • No sexual, violent, hateful, illegal or shocking images, files or links. Images are screened automatically.
  • Only share work you have the right to share. Don’t upload textbooks, other people’s worksheets or exam papers you don’t have rights to.
  • Don’t share other people’s personal information, such as their marks, photos or address, without their permission.
  • No spam, advertising for other services, chain messages or malware.

7. Help people learn, don’t help them cheat

Tutors explain, guide and give feedback. They don’t do assessed work for a student to hand in as their own, sit a test for someone, or share exam material that hasn’t been released. Students shouldn’t ask them to.

8. Reviews and ratings

  • Review only lessons you took and resources you own, and say what really happened.
  • Don’t offer or accept anything for a review, for changing one or for removing one.
  • Don’t review yourself, a friend’s account or a competitor.
  • Tutors can reply to reviews. Keep replies calm and don’t share private details from lessons.

9. What happens if someone breaks the rules

We look at reports with a person, not just software. What we do depends on how serious it is, whether it was deliberate, and whether it has happened before:

Usual responses
How seriousExamplesWhat we usually do
MinorA rude message, a first attempt to share a handle or move to another appRemove the content and give a warning
Serious or repeatedHarassment, fake reviews, asking to pay outside Astry, copying resourcesLimit or suspend the account, hide listings, hold payouts
SevereAnything that puts a child at risk, threats of violence, fraud, fake checksBan straight away, and report to the police or other authorities where appropriate

We tell you by email when we take action against your account and why, unless telling you would put someone at risk or hinder an investigation. If you think we got it wrong, email hello@astry.com.au and we will look at it again. Making a new account after a ban isn’t allowed.

10. How to report something

  • Use the report button on a profile, message, review or resource.
  • Or open a ticket from Support.
  • If someone is in immediate danger, call 000 first.

Reports are confidential: we don’t tell the person reported who made it, unless the law requires us to. Please don’t make reports to get back at someone. A false report is itself a breach of these guidelines.
